How to list a domain for sale, step by step

A person filling in an online form on a laptop

How to list my domain for sale comes down to three things at every venue: prove you control the name, choose a listing type and set a price. Whether to sell at all is covered in how to sell a domain name, and what each venue charges is compared in where to sell domain names, so fees are left out here. All pages were checked on 23 October 2026.

One name is missing on purpose. Domain Name Wire reported in September 2024 that new clients could no longer sign up for Dan.com and that accounts would be migrated to Afternic. DomainInvesting.com reported that Dan.com shut down fully on 27 June 2025, and dan.com now redirects to Afternic. Its lease-to-own lander survives as an option inside Afternic.

Before you list: three checks

The 60-day lock. GoDaddy states that domains “are not eligible for transfer to another registrar if they are within 60 days of registration or a previous transfer”. Dynadot’s route to Afternic excludes names registered or transferred in the last 60 days. Check the name’s status codes before you price it.

Expiry. Namecheap will not list a name less than 7 days before expiry, or for longer than its registration runs. Renew first if the date is close.

Fast Transfer eligibility. Afternic’s criteria: the name “must have a Buy Now price” below $100,000; “must be registered for 60 days or longer with the current registrar and must not be subject to a 60-day registry lock”; the registration “cannot expire in 30 days or less”; and it must sit at a partner registrar on a supported extension.

Afternic, directly or through GoDaddy

Afternic direct

Afternic’s help page, How can I list a domain for sale on Afternic?, gives the steps: sign in, open the Add Domains page, add up to 50 domains or bulk import, click Next, set a minimum offer price, optionally add floor and Buy Now prices, then Submit.

Ownership verification only appears if the name is already listed at Afternic. Your TXT and nameserver codes are under Settings, then Ownership Verification. For TXT, add @ as the name, paste the value and set a TTL of 600 seconds. For the nameserver route, paste the string exactly, with no prefix. DNS “can take up to 48 hours” to propagate, so add the code first.

The three prices behave differently. Buy Now is binding. The floor price is optional but “binding”, and GoDaddy recommends setting it 20% to 30% below Buy Now; without one, Afternic contacts you to approve offers. The minimum price is set automatically at 65% of Buy Now, is not binding, and offers must be answered within 7 days. Domains are “reviewed within 48 hours” before the listing activates.

GoDaddy List for Sale

If the name is at GoDaddy, sign in to your Domain Portfolio, tick the domains, choose List for Sale from the action menu, select Get Started, enter a price (or Use Est. Value), optionally switch on a “For Sale” landing page and select Next. You then create or sign in to an Afternic account to publish. Bundled domains cannot be listed.

GoDaddy says eligible listings are automatically opted into Fast Transfer when the transfer lock ends. For names at other partner registrars, Afternic sends two emails: a listing confirmation, and one from your registrar with an opt-in link, sent to the admin email on file. Reading that inbox matters: a name that is not opted in is delivered by hand, with Afternic’s Transaction Assurance team contacting you for instructions.

Sedo, Namecheap, Atom, Spaceship and Dynadot

Sedo

Create a free account, add domains, then set the price option. For Buy Now, go to My Sedo, My Domains, Domain Management and edit the Price Option column. Listings “appear instantly” once priced, but ownership is checked against Whois; with private details, manual checks can take several business days. Entering Sedo’s verification ID at your registrar is faster.

Namecheap Market

Only Namecheap-registered names qualify. Open Domain List, click Manage, scroll to Other Domain Settings and click Sell Domain. Enter an asking price, a list period and the adult-listing answer. The listing should be visible “within the next 24 hours”.

Atom

Atom (formerly Squadhelp) has three tiers. Standard and Plus need no approval and can be verified by TXT record or by pointing to ns1.atom.com and ns2.atom.com. Premium is reviewed, accepts “about 10% of submitted domains”, must use Atom’s nameservers and is exclusive to Atom. Before you commit a name to Premium, read our Atom review for buyers and sellers.

Spaceship SellerHub

Import domains one at a time, in bulk by CSV, or from your Spaceship portfolio, then choose a starting offer or fixed price. SellerHub accepts names from any registrar. Spaceship confirms a TXT method and a Verify Domains button; Domain Name Wire’s June 2025 test also found nameserver and DNS routes.

Dynadot

For Dynadot names: Manage Domains, tick the names, choose Sell Domain, then Marketplace, and save. Names at other registrars go under the Other Registrar tab and verify by nameserver, CNAME or TXT. Keep that code in place: if Dynadot stops detecting it, the listing is removed.

Listing on SERPHeroes

The SERPHeroes Domain Marketplace is built for aged and expired-style names bought by SEOs and site builders. Each listing shows registry age and an archive spam scan. It is smaller than Afternic or Sedo and has no registrar network, so treat it as one venue among several. The four steps:

  1. Submit: “Enter the domain, a price or minimum offer, and a short description.”
  2. Verify ownership: “Add a DNS record or upload a file we give you.”
  3. We review it: “We check the registry, and our team reviews the listing before it goes live.”
  4. It goes live: buyers contact SERPHeroes, which emails you “about every serious offer”.

It accepts names you own, can verify and can transfer, that are not someone else’s trademark, priced from $10. Listing is free and you can withdraw a name at any time. To start, list your domain on the SERPHeroes Domain Marketplace. If you would rather send traffic to your own page, see building a domain for sale landing page.

Frequently asked questions

Can I list a domain on more than one venue?

Often. Atom Standard states “No Exclusivity”, but Atom Premium is exclusive, so read each venue’s terms.

Do I need to move the domain to list it?

Not usually. Namecheap Market requires a Namecheap registration; Afternic, Sedo, Atom, SellerHub and Dynadot verify names held elsewhere.

Can I still list on Dan.com?

No. Dan.com shut down on 27 June 2025 and now redirects to Afternic.

How long until my listing is live?

Afternic reviews within 48 hours, Namecheap within 24 hours, and Sedo “instantly” once verified; other venues state no fixed time.

The takeaway Clear the lock and expiry checks first, then pick the venue whose verification and listing types suit the name. Compare fees separately.
