Recent .ai domain sales have moved the extension into a price range once reserved for .com. Escrow.com reported $37.7 million of .ai transactions through its service in Q2 2026, up from $10.0 million in Q1, and its chief executive, Matt Barrie, put it bluntly: “Buyers are paying more, on average, for a good .ai name than a good .com one.” The .ai ending is the country code of Anguilla, a Caribbean island, which now earns a large share of its income from it.

The biggest .ai domain sales on record
These are the largest publicly reported .ai sales. “Confirmed” means the venue or seller announced it, or at least two independent sources carry it; “reported” means one trade source or chart. DNJournal dates are the dates a sale was reported, not when it closed.

This week’s three need care. 83.ai’s $32,397 is a NameBio figure quoted on NamePros, and the venue comes only from a Domain.News brief. Kadence.ai’s $25,000 was reported by dn.com, which names the price but not the venue. Greeted.ai has two sources, hazlo.ai and NameBio via NamePros. DNJournal also prints Rooms.ai as “Room.ai”. What a .ai domain costs to register and hold
Identity Digital runs the .ai registry under an agreement with the Government of Anguilla, after a migration completed on 15 January 2025; names moved in that migration were given a two-year extension. Identity Digital said at the time it had no plans to change wholesale pricing. Registrars set retail prices, and both we checked require a two-year minimum. Porkbun says .ai domains “require a minimum term of 2 years for registration and renewals”. What the extension is, and how Anguilla earns from it, is covered in our guide to the .ai domain.
- Porkbun: $82.70 a year for registration and renewal (checked 22 October 2026).
- Dynadot: $85.60 a year for registration and renewal (checked 22 October 2026).
- First purchase: roughly $165 to $171 for the minimum two years.
Expiring registry names now go to auction daily through Namecheap, which won that right in February 2025 (Dynadot previously ran monthly auctions). Holding costs matter when you buy to resell; our post on domain renewal prices covers why renewals, not first-year offers, are the real cost.

Registrations have grown fast. Semafor counted “nearly 880,000” .ai domains in September 2025, and PYMNTS reported the total passed one million at the turn of 2026, with about 2,000 new registrations a day in January. Anguilla earned $39 million from the extension in 2024, “almost a quarter of the island’s total revenue” per Semafor, and roughly $85 to $93 million in 2025, depending on the source. Premier Cora Richardson Hodge said in October: “Domain name registration has generated EC$217 million between January and July”, about US$80 million.

Price bands: what length and type are worth
Grouping the two tables by name type shows clear bands. They describe these sales only, not a market-wide price list.
- Two characters: four sales, from $32,397 (83.ai, reported) to $250,000 (OF.ai), with BM.ai at $55,000 and Q2.ai at $95,000 between.
- Three characters: seven sales, from $205,000 (Ace.ai) to $1,200,000 (Bot.ai). None went for less than $205,000.
- One-word dictionary names: from $22,495 (Greeted.ai) to $750,000 (Wisdom.ai). The 2026 Spaceship sales cluster at $92,000 to $157,000; the top tier runs $350,000 to $750,000.
- Brandable or coined: only two examples, Kadence.ai at $25,000 and Terafab.ai at $174,257, too few to call a band.

Escrow.com’s data points the same way at the top. Its mean price for an exact English-word .ai name rose from $148,000 to $535,000 in its Q2 2026 report, against .com’s move from $402,000 to $529,000, which is why it wrote that “For the first time ever, a good .ai domain costs more than a good .com one.” DNJournal’s chart for 5 to 18 October 2026 had seven .ai names in its all-extension top 20; in 2019 its top 100 had none. TLD Investors counted 7,335 .ai sales worth $22 million in 2025, 27 of them six-figure.
Use these bands as context, not a quote for your own name. The free Domain Worth Calculator maps a name to a value band from its extension, length, words, characters, age and links. It is not a market appraisal and was not run on the sales above.
What these figures cannot tell you
The limitation is evidential. Four of the 28 sales here are confirmed; the other 24 rely on one trade source, a chart or a quoted NameBio record. Buyers are rarely named, so we cannot say why anyone paid what they did. Private sales go unreported, so the public record shows what was disclosed rather than what changed hands. And the Escrow.com figures cover only its own transactions. The two-character band rests on four sales and the brandable group on two, so a single new sale could move either. To trace a single name’s past sales, our guide to domain sales history shows where to look.

Frequently asked questions
What is the most expensive .ai domain ever sold?
Bot.ai, at $1.2 million via Sedo, reported on 24 February 2026 and announced by Sedo itself. The previous record was Wisdom.ai at $750,000 in October 2025.
Is AI.com a .ai domain sale?
No. AI.com is a .com name. Its reported $70 million price belongs on the all-time .com list, not in .ai sales tables.
How much does a .ai domain cost to register?
On 22 October 2026, Porkbun charged $82.70 a year and Dynadot $85.60, with a two-year minimum term, so about $165 to $171 to start.
Who runs the .ai extension?
.ai is Anguilla’s country code. Identity Digital provides registry services under an agreement with the Government of Anguilla, since a migration completed on 15 January 2025.
The takeaway Short .ai names now sell at prices once reserved for .com: three characters have not gone below $205,000 in the public record, and the top sale is $1.2 million. Most of those prices are reported, not confirmed, so treat them as a guide.
